Biruktawit (Nani) Galoro is an undergraduate student at the School of Social Work at the University of Washington. Nani is passionate about equity work, particularly in education.
As a Black immigrant who has experienced barriers in pursuing her higher education aspirations, Nani is deeply committed to building an equitable education system where everyone has the opportunity to succeed and thrive. At CCER, she brings her lived experiences and passion to contribute to the organization’s mission of catalyzing change in the education system.
In addition to her academic and professional pursuits, Nani is the oldest daughter and a proud older sister. She values being a role model for her younger sister and other youth in her community. Her faith is also a central part of her life—her favorite place to be is at the Ethiopian Orthodox Church every Sunday morning, where she finds spiritual growth and fellowship with her peers.
